Decadent red wine hot chocolate
3/4 Cup cream
3/4 Cup milk (any kind is fine)
1/4 a bar of Divine Chocolate’s 100% cocoa unsweetened baking bar (Approx 1.5 oz)
1 Cup of moderately priced Merlot (Do yourself a favor and spend the money...)
1 cup Cup sugar
2 Tablespoons Cointreu or Triplesec (optional but delicious)
(3 Additional cups of milk for a diluted version)
Method
Gently heat the cream, wine and milk in a sauce pan until it begins to steam (don’t boil it or your cream will curdle - ick!). It will look a bit weirdly pink but don’t worry, the chocolate covers that up!
Break the chocolate into small pieces and stir into the cream mixture. Use a whisk and stir, stir, stir. Don’t be tempted to turn up the heat, just stir and eventually all of the chocolate will combine into a smooth, velvety finish.
Add the sugar and optional orange liqueur and stir until all the sugar is dissolved.
Give it a taste. You can decide here if you want to serve it the thick, decadent way, or to thin it out a bit more with the optional milk
Ladle out into cups and serve warm. Enjoy xx
